Red Hat Linux 7.1: The Official Red Hat Linux Reference Guide
PrevChapter 13. Using Apache as a Secure Web ServerNext

How to Install the Secure Server

You can install the secure Web server in the following ways:

  • During a fresh installation of Red Hat Linux — Since the secure Web server is included with the Red Hat Linux operating system, the easiest method is during the installation of Red Hat Linux. If you are about to do a complete installation of Red Hat Linux, this is how you should install your secure server. See the section called Installing the Secure Server with Red Hat Linux for more information on this method.

  • When you are upgrading Red Hat Linux using the installation program — if you already have a previous version of Red Hat Linux running on your system and you are upgrading to Red Hat Linux 7.1, you can install the secure server packages during the upgrade process. See the section called Upgrading from a Previous Version of Red Hat Linux for more information on this method.

  • Installing the secure server after installing Red Hat Linux 7.1 — if you previously installed Red Hat Linux 7.1 but did not install the secure server packages, and at a later date decide that you want to install the secure server, you can use RPM, Gnome-RPM or Kpackage to install the secure server packages from a Red Hat Linux CD. See the section called Installing the Secure Server After Red Hat Linux for instructions on how to install the secure server after you have already installed Red Hat Linux.

NoteUpgrading Apache

When you install the secure Web server, if you are upgrading from any previous version of Apache (including any previous secure server product from Red Hat), you will need to understand certain issues concerning the Apache upgrade process. If you are upgrading Apache, see the section called Upgrading from a Previous Version of Apache before you begin the installation process.
